Pagan ministry in WV and OH state prisons
1st pagan ministry to serve inmates in WV & oh state prisons Appalachian Pagan Ministry is currently serving on-site monthly at prisons across WV and Ohio Huntington, WV, December 30, 2016– Appalachian Pagan Ministry, founded by Rev. Donna Donovan in Huntington, WV, is currently the only Pagan ministry allowed in to West Virginia state prisons. Up till now, pagan inmates were allowed to meet once a week, and to celebrate 2 holidays a year, but were not allowed to have any sort of religious ceremony or ritual without outside pagan clergy present. Rev. Donovan and the Appalachian Pagan Ministry are the first allowed in by the West Virginia Dept. of Corrections. In Ohio, pagan inmates (Asatru/Odinist/Wiccans) are allowed to meet once a month and only with outside clergy present. At this time, Appalachian Pagan Ministry is serving on-site monthly at 5 facilities in WV: St Mary's, Salem, Lakin, Pruntytown, and Huttonsville Correctional, and on-site monthly at 4 facilities in Ohio: Allen-Oakwood, Southern Ohio, Warren and Chillicothe Correctional, including Death Row. "These inmates, male and female alike, know the mistakes they have made in their lives. They are paying for those mistakes. Yet instead of wallowing in self-pity or continuing to blame outside sources for their current situation, they are holding themselves accountable and doing what they can to grow in body, mind and spirit to ensure they do not make those same mistakes again. Truly, how many of us really do that? These folks have made oaths to themselves, to their Gods, and to their ancestors to live honorably. They realize, and freely admit, they did not do so before...which is why they are in prison. How can we not help them be able to do that?”--Rev Donna Donovan Approximately 2.3 million men & women are incarcerated, 95% of prisoners are released.... approx. 700, 000 of those will be this year. July 30 - August 1, 2010 CAMP DAKOTA ~ (Please check the camp site for directions http://www.campdakota.com ) To join us for the first NORTHWEST ALL HEATHEN JamberMOOT, in the beautiful lush woods, in Centeral Oregon. Where we as heathens can join together for a weekend of FUN: Auction ~ Mead Contest (prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd $ 3rd place)~Please let me know if you are entering the Mead contest ahead of time.... Games and Entertainment for all ages~ Informal Sumble~ Vendors Welcome (All venders are asked to donate one item to Auction and of course pay your camping fees)~ This is a non-denominational, non-political heathen gathering. No matter what form of heathenry we practice this is a place for us to get together, put aside for one weekend ~ our barriers~ differences and honor the Gods, strengthen the bonds of heathenry, share kinship & freindship, share a horn, make memories that will last a lifetime. A place for you to step away from the keyboard and get together face to face with other heathens for FUN and kinship. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ REMINDER: There will be an additional $20 fee if you pay at the gate... You will have to let me know if you plan to do this so that I can let the campground office know you are with this group, and NOT charge you....
