My previous post in 2006 was when I was between memberships for a bunch of years. I am once again in a local kindred and I finally sent in my check to rejoin the Troth.

Currently my husband I practice alone and unfortunally there are no kindred's/groups outside of the Phoenix-Metro area that I know of. However, we are interested in meeting other Asatru/Odinist who are wanting to join/form a kindred in Casa Grande,AZ. If you live in central Arizona and are interested in joining or forming a kindred in Casa Grande,AZ please e-mail us at vinland_design_company@yahoo.com.

I live in Italy so it's not so easy to find a Kindred or people really interested in Asatru (I mean, not in the viking-fashion-metal style or politicized guys that I mostly see today) to start one. So I've always practiced alone. I discuss every day with some friends on the net, we also run a website and a forum about Asatru and since I recognize how much these virtual friendships are helping me growing within my path I guess that a real contact and practice with other people will be the most important thing since I've began. It's also true that the basis is the self, first you have to find your way in Asatru and being a loner helps, but at some point you cannot continue alone, it's a closed road that brings you only a bit far.

There are absolutely no Asatru kindred society groups located anywhere near me. I practice alone and in solitude.

NYX, San Diego is wierd. There are only 2 groups that I know of, and they do not respond to Email introductions. Any other group that remotely resembles Asatru are loonies that like to dress up and play Viking at renaissance fairs or some you might see, with photos, on internet meeting sights (I usualy do not judge appearances but they all have shaved heads so I must judge on the side of caution). If you are up for a good challenge, Iron Mountain is a good place to be with the Gods. There is also a mail box at the top where one can leave and recieve messages in FUTHARK
Nyx Wednesday, December 20, 2006, 01:45:09 PST
San Diego is kinda weird when it comes to organized groups especially anything traditional. But I could be proven wrong. I'd like to get a Asatru group going here, but I wonder what the interest is.
Andy UK Tuesday, August 22, 2006, 14:40:32 PDT
Whilst its true that being solitary may grant you a more personal bond with the Aesir, I believe an important factor is Kinship, to be part of a community with the same thoughts and beliefs. I have only recently discovered Asatru, so I do not know of any Kindreds in my area.

There is no doubt that participating in ritual and discussion with others of like mind is very gratifying. However,my experience thus far in the 7 years that I have practiced Asatru is that many of those involved are more concerned with appearance and recognition than actually walking the walk.Of course this is not a blanket statement and I myself fall far short of the mark outlined for us by the 9 noble virtues and described by Wotan in the Havamal.I do recognise this fact and don't pretend otherwise. At the same time I do strive to make the choice for right action on every occasion.I ask no forgiveness for my mistakes.Instead,I resolve not to repeat my wrong actions and endevour to learn from them and make use of that knowledge rather than being consumed and destroyed. The lesson I have learned is that troth to the self is first and foremost. We must serve ourselves before we can serve others.Everything Odin does demostrates this fact.Be very, very sure of the troth of those with whom one enters into oath.

I am from salina ,ks and have a yearning to practice our sacred ways with like minded folk. I have been a pagan for 5 years and have reached a spiritual stasis for lack of fellowship. So here I am desperate in my search for asa-folk to practice our ancestral ways. Nice site by the way.We need more tools to give the would be Asatuar so he might keep the true spirit of our peaple alive. Odin bless
Doug Freyburger Wednesday, January 04, 2006, 06:52:44 PST
I let my Ring of Troth membership lapse years ago. I suppose I should rejoin but I've lost interest in the umbrella groups for the moment. I am active on the newsgroup. It's the most public place in all of Asatru - Newsgroups and web boards are both visible to anyone in the world web boards tend to eventually go out of business and disappear. On the other hand the archives for newsgroups go back into the early 1980s (my oldest archived post is from 1983 about Star Wars). If those posts have already lasted decades they will last a lot longer than that into the future. So the newsgroup isn't an organization, but it is a legacy.

I agree with Widow and Ulfson. I live in San Diego, CA. and I wear my hammer openly. If you see me, I am approachable. I am always open for discussion and exchange of information. Even though organizations can help you network, I feel it should be our faith and herritage as applied to every day life that bring us together.

I'm head of my háma, Ó Colmáin and a member of Lítt Ugla Ásatrú Kindred. As a Michigan resident, I'm also a part of Michigan Trúfolk. As for National or International organizations, I am a member of both the Odinic Rite Vinland and The Ring of Troth. I enjoy the fellowship and resources associating with the heathen community brings.

I am currently a solo asatruer. However I have several brothers still icarcarated. Its a great feeling being with others such as at a blot. However I now have all the time in the world for myself to do what I may. I research alot by mayself and still hold my blots every month. I guess I'm comfortable either way. I Know what is true to me!
andersdotter Wednesday, July 13, 2005, 14:43:04 PDT
i have never been involved in a group, distance reasons, but i do think it would be beneficial for meeting like minded people and sharing thoughts and ideas. im sure there are a lot of "power hungry" groups, but i doubt that strictly a heathen thing either ;)
Widow Thursday, June 23, 2005, 10:06:45 PDT
In my experience, groups bite. There seems to be an inundation of mellodrama and power hunger that I simply can't relate to. I truly feel that some may need groups through which to justify their beliefs, a place to reinvest faith per se. I do agree with Ulfson however. I've learned so much with it being just myself and the Gods...it is time well spent in the wells of wisdom...and they run deep.

i am not a member of any orgaization, nor will i ever be! the idea of forming organizations, appointing preists and putting up religious rules, is totally against the northern way! such things never existet in the old north. by forming organizations you are merely coppying the christian aproach to religion.

As of now, I am unaware of kindreds in the Central IL area, but I am still looking.. that would be nice to do this in a group setting for a change.. a friend of mine who is a Witch (a Witch, NOT a Wiccan) invited me to a Circle at his home a few times, it was very nice, but I felt a little out of place there.. now if I could get involved with a Kindred and the blots and sumbels, that would really rock!

Announcing a group forming in Reno, NV. Due to household interests we'll be more a study group of both Norse/Germanic and Celtic cultures and faiths than a pure Asatru kindred. We will be planning rites to honor both pantheons separately, and holding discussions to further our members' knowledge of both Asatru and Celtic Reconstructionism. Anyone who finds themselves bound for the Reno area and looking for other heathens, please do feel free to email me at chooper@775.net

I would like to think I'm Asatru, but I'm not sure I really know enough to be considered such. However, I'm working on learning more as I go! Unfortunately, and much to my surprise, all my research has rendered almost no fruit in the form of Minnesotan Asatruars, save a kindred up in Duluth, which does me no good, down in the Prior Lake, Savage area. Erg. If I'm wrong, and there is someone in this area, or if anybody wants to discuss Asatru with me (something I'd be absolutely thrilled to do!), my email is silverwind_k@msn.com. Drop me a line! I'll respond promptly.

It took a while to find people I WANTED to stand and Blot with. Too many Wiccatru people out there, too much politics, too many wannabee Gothis and too many "dress up and pretend" people. Alone is better than the wrong hearth or kindred.

Helsa, Yulfa again. I'm known as Gythia/Godia to thows who have chosen to honor me with that tital. Even thow I know in our Gods, I have had no formal training, nor have I had a proper induction into the Gothar, save my own private dedication. I wonder if I truely deserve that honorable tital, but I do my very best to serve them, my way calls for nothing less. To thows of you who search for a Hearth, I offer you my Grove.....Known to us as....,"Whispering Oaks Grove" We are located about 25 miles South and outside of Louisville Ky. You must be at least 21 years of age, and absoluteky no curiosity seekers are welcome here. The name of the Grove speaks of it's self, it is an absolutely beautiful place of honoring located on top of a hill which overlooks a plush valley. I look foreward to welcoming anyone who is kindred. I just want to say how much joy it brings me to see such intelegent heart felt responces to these poles. May The Gods Be With You!
Yulfa Wednesday, October 23, 2002, 10:45:46 PDT
I and one male friend worship the Norse gods together. My husband supports my spiritual path, however, he doesn't feel the connection that I do, and isn't as active. I've found many people who think they are of like mind, but in reality, lack a true connecting love. Within their lives they have placed priorities on partys, monitary, and material gain. There simply isn't room for anything eles. For most, time is more well spent watching a movie or playing a vidio game, which involves Germanic God like characters. It appears that our Gods have become something more for our ammusement, than our respect. I'm all for living compfortably, but not at the expense of our true well being. The lifestyle I'm refering to is'nt healthy. Not for the body, and defenately not for the soul. The monitary stuff is mostly spent on support of the party aspect. Going out and hitting the drugs while listening to high tech music, is more exciting than a drum circle and envokations. Not that Heatherns don't party, we're the original Klingons. But it's painfully obvious that the seduction of the fast paced city, with it's lights and energy are powerful creations of man. I've had many situations where people ask for tutoring, only to lose interest when the novelty wore off. I would love to have a larger hearth, how ever I'm lacking true Asatru to accomplish this dream. I'm afraid we've become so comfortable that to most, a God of any variety at all has become a novelty. If your lacking a connective feeling to a God, maybe you should ask yourself if you've truely left the room in your heart/life for one. Sadly, A Godia in Ky. I'm reaching out.... You may e-mail me at norse1@att.net

Being part of an active Hearth has had many benefits both spiritually and socially. It encourages the exchange of knowledge within our faith and provides a supportive network invaluable to the family unit. It puts the 'kin' in 'kinship,.

I am from the province of Quebec in Canada! Founding a kindred is very hard by myself! This is one of my ultimate goal to found a kindred in my country!

I have no-one in my area who follows Asatru. Not that I know of. For the time being I am alone. Our indviduality is our strength. As Odin hung alone upon Yggdrasil, he recieved the runes,`enlightenment`, we must strive for the same knowledge through our own sacrifices to reach our inner selves, to find our own inner links to the cosmic divine. Although I would be happy to find someone in my area who shares like thoughts. I live in Geramany, Stutgart area. It is mainly catholics and evangelists.´round here. Too bad. Must keep looking

What are the different national and international groups that a solitary like myself could join?
Freyr Robertsson Friday, June 21, 2002, 12:38:03 PDT
Not at the moment . I've never trusted organizations who often try to use the eddas/sagas to support some political/predudiced idea.Asatru is an "organic" religion or culture and should never be made to fit one person"s political ideals and predudice, and especially within the asatru/odinist community. For there is no community without tolerance.

I'm alone..but not lonely. :-)

I shall have to begin my own kindred in Costa Rica. I do not doubt some 10 to 20 people are likely to be Asatru in this country. Nonetheless, I only know two for sure.
Engel Drage Sunday, April 21, 2002, 01:59:32
I would, but every time i contact them they ignor me like i'm the black plague, and now that i'm moving to a state that there are none in the area, i'm even more solitare.
Dan Monday, February 25, 2002, 13:51:45
I'm not part of any group, and I doubt there's any around here. I think I would join a group though, if only for that sense of community and the feeling of ancestural pride. The closest I can come to that around here is the local Oktoberfest. Not much pride can be felt there though. The beer's good, but that's beside the point. It's hard to hail the gods and goddesses to that annoying duck dance!
Magnus Ulfhedinn Wednesday, February 13, 2002, 18:58:30
Most groups tend to have to much dogma founded in neo paganism. Even the more 'traditionalist only practice what is a modern form, and of the intrest of the group, and seldom adhear to what true worship the gods require. Human sacrifises are not lawful, there for not a problem for followers of lawfull deities. But mead as an offering is only acceptable in some cases, not all. Most Asatru groups near me use mead only.

PAGAN GROUPS JUST SEEM TO ATTRACT TOO MANY HANGERS-ON: IE - "I NEED A PROSPERITY SPELL BUT I DONT HAVE TIME TO LOOK FOR A JOB". THE OTHER THING IS THE RELIGIOUS "JOCKS" - PEOPLE WANT TO BE "IN CHARGE", YET LACK TRUE LEADERSHIP QUALITIES - JUST A GREEDY EGO. ALONE SEEMS BETTER.

The Gothar and Kindred I know are in California and Arizona. I attempted contact several times with Kindred in Las Vegas but they remain anynonymous. If they are that afraid of others and don't stand up for what they believe, they can stay to themselves as far as I'm concerned. I travel out-of-State occasionally. Most Pagans I've met in Las Vegas have a lot to be desired. Other true Asatruer can contact me at steamy@lvcm.com. Also find out more about me on http://www.steamy1.com. In firth -- Steamy :)

Hi all. I'm from sweden we have a couple of groups here but they dont feel right for me. Like the Swedish Asatru Society, I checked out there website and it looked jolly good but then I read some stuff there leader had wrote and he compared Odin and Jesus! like there are one and the same. I've been a pagan for about 6 years now. I love this website. I had no idea that people all around the world are into Asatru:) May the gods be with you all. If any one wanna get in contact with me my email addy is uffe@gollum.se

Bob Trapp Thursday, September 27, 2001, 03:40:04
There needs to be a "sort of" response. My group is/was a loose confederation of Heathens. We are still close but life has moved many of my people to others places. I am proud of each of them though, They moved on to greater things in life and could because of each individual's strength.
Grimsteinr Saturday, September 01, 2001, 12:45:13
Actually, I really believe in supporting Asatru. So, I belong, and contribute to about 4 orgs, Mostly very Folkish. I'll qualify that, 3 Asatru, orgs, one Odinic org, and one Runic org........JG

Hmm... no comments really just interested in numbers of asatru in local area
Chip Johnson Sunday, August 05, 2001, 18:12:12
Iris; Glad to see you found others! It's strength in numbers, and with the Internet, we are all able to find Kin. I've been a member of a Kindred for 23 years, and just got invited to another in the area. I support the Asatru Folk Assembly's efforts, but haven't the funds to pay the high membership dues. I am a proud member of the Odinist Fellowship and Asatru Alliance.

I live in Denmark where there are several asatru groups, but none of them are close enough to where i live to be worth joining. There is a group, Forn Sidr, that is trying to become recognised as a "church", but until they are, there's no point in joining them either (as they cannot perform weddings, funerals and the like at present). I've been pagan (I don't call myself asatru, but still I consider myself a NORSE pagan) for more than five years and in that time I haven't met any other pagans.

I live on an island you can walk across in less than half a day. I can literally count the number of non-Christian, but still religious, people I know on 1 hand (two ba'hai moved a few years ago, cutting it down to four people) On the other hand we've got almost every flavour of Christianity you could ever hope to avoid (If only the school Evangelist hadn't heard me tell people I was heathen!) I just wish there were ANY pagans, asatru or otherwise.
iris magnusdottir Tuesday, June 05, 2001, 17:15:04
ok, now i found 2 people who are interested in asatru, so i have 2 students and together we make a new circle (not so many "groves" in iceland due to few trees). so i'm not so lonely now in the usa.

I would join a kindred if there was one close enough to me, but the majority of the kindreds here in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA are generally dedicated to Freya. I ofcourse am dedicated to Odin, but a kindred doesn't have to be dedicated to one deity if we don't agree. I live in Fremont, Alameda county, S.F. Bay Area and I would be very interested in co-founding a kindred with some Asatruars and other heathens here in the San Francisco Bay Area. I give all our gods equal credance, If any of you S.F. Bay Area Asatruars are reading this, i'm sure many of you agree that's a pain in the ass to go all the way to S.F. or Berkeley just to attend kindred events. I propose that we could have a kindred here in my hometown of Fremont. My home is open, I have an understanding with a local unitarian church that I may rent a room for a moderate fee for any kindred meetings, and we have a great public park for outdoor rituals. Access is very good to the Dumbarton and San Mateo bridges, from Fremont, my town is about 30 miles between San Jose & Berkeley and 35 miles southeast of S.F. I'd be interested to hear from anyone in my area. e-mail me at berserkviking@hotmail.com to discuss the possibilities of a kindred In frith, Ryan Fairhair

(Pardon my accidental double post!); I identify as a 'solitary @ present but I wouln't say that is necessarily permanant. This is still an evolving situation.

I would like to find more folk here in SW Michigan. Perhaps if there is a kindred or local group, maybe put something in a local paper or radio.

Anyone in the Rockford, IL area!!?? I'm looking to form an Heathen Fellowship, hopefully to grow into a Kindred. Member: Asatru Alliance (as Riverwood Kindred - Formational), Asatru Folk Asembly & Odinic Rite, Friend of the Winland Rice of Theodish Belief (also the Frisians and Normans), the Anglo-Saxon Ealdriht Citizen of Nova Roma and helping the Rockford Areas Pagans get organized.

I would join an International one on the proviso that there was no 'one' person or group controlling it. I rather like the World Council of Ethnic Religions www.wcer.org for example.
Hélio Friday, September 08, 2000, 02:09:32
Neither is there a kindred or heathen group in Portugal nor do I know how my spiritual choice of following both Heathenry and Neo-Druidism (I make no mixing, they are two different traditions!!!)would be seen in a group: some heathens tend to look suspecious on it. So I prefer to do it alone. Wassail!

In my area, Hot Springs(in the state of Arkansas, USA), there are no groups that I am aware of. Did see an "Odin Lives" bumper sticker on a car in traffic, that is the extent of it here, unfortunately.
Waytamer Saturday, April 29, 2000, 17:30:22
Asatru by its very nature is one of kinship, not solitude. Looking at the results of this poll more people should be getting out and showing the world their Troth, more people should be congregating. To be alone is poison
pesator Monday, April 03, 2000, 22:21:53
I operate a sub asatru group known as the :Ring Of Troth
Poll opened July 8, 1999.
